Volunteer design work I did for Carpets for Communities based in the Poipet Commune, Cambodia on the Thailand border. Here, many children are at risk of human trafficking and being sold into prostitution as they are on the streets begging or working to support their family. Equally important, by working and begging, they are deprived of an education that would otherwise improve their long-term livelihoods. This ultimately has them trapped in a cycle of poverty that CfC aims to break by empowering the mothers and their families. Founded in 2005 as a not-for-profit social enterprise, CfC encourages the development of micro-enterprises amongst impoverished families in Cambodia through the initial support of rug production. This allows the mothers to send their children to school, building their education and allowing their family to have a more dignified and prosperous life.
